Sullivan commends passage of bill protecting U.S. flag
Congressman John Sullivan today commended the passage of a joint resolution proposing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would prohibit the physical desecration of the American flag:
“Americans have fought and died for our flag,” said Sullivan, a co-sponsor of the resolution. “In America, you can say whatever you want about our flag -- that’s free speech. But when you grab a flag and burn it, you desecrate the memory of all who have shed blood for our Nation’s freedom. The American flag is our national symbol and the physical embodiment of our unity, our character, and our strength as a people.”
H.J. Res 4 passed the U.S. House today by a wide bi-partisan vote of 300-125. It now goes to the U.S. Senate where a 2/3 vote is required for passage.
