Wunderle leads team USA in opening ceremonies
2000 Olympic Archery Silver Medalist Vic Wunderle (Mason City, Ill./Texas A&M University) led the U.S. team into Opening Ceremonies as the flag bearer for the 2003 United States Summer World University Games Team. The announcement was made following a meeting of the team captains for each of the nine sports in which the United States will be participating.
Wunderle, the 2000 Olympic silver medalist in the individual event and bronze medalist in the team competition, arrived in Daegu after traveling directly from the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic where he won the gold medals in both the individual and team events.
"It's a great honor and privilege to be able to represent the U.S. in this manner. And its not only representing the U.S., but representing myself, my sport and all of the people at home that helped us to get here, said Wunderle.
