City to lower flags in honor of former president
The City of Austin will lower its flags to half-staff beginning Friday, June 11, in honor of former President Ronald Reagan. Flags will remain at half-staff through July 5.
President George W. Bush has declared Friday a National Day of Mourning for the ex-President who died Saturday, June 5. June 11 is the day of Reagan’s funeral in Washington, D.C., and his burial in California.
Mayor Will Wynn officially decreed the City tribute today, June 8, 'in honor and respect for the memory of the United States’ 40th President, Ronald Reagan'.
The tribute will be from sunrise, June 11, to sunset, July 5.
City operations will be fully staffed on Friday. Where possible, Supervisors will work with employees who want to watch the televised ceremony in memory of President Reagan.
